'World of Warcraft' Expansion Shatters Sales Records DateTime:12/11/2008 5:18:50 PM
It's been just a week since Blizzard released their Wrath of the Lich King expansion to World of Warcraft (longer if you shop at 7-Eleven), and already the game is exceeding sales expectations.Shattering the prior record of 2.4 million copies -- previously held by the Burning Crusade expansion -- over 2.8 million copies of the MMORPG sold in the first 24 hours alone, making it the fastest-selling PC game of all time. If there was ever any doubt regarding Blizzard's stranglehold on the PC market, then as of November 13 that doubt was cast aside, slathered in honey, and devoured by a legion of starving bears.Buy wow gold here !!!!1
If one assumes that all of the copies sold were the $39.99 based edition then Blizzard made just under $112 million from the sales of the boxed software alone, on a single day.Emerging from what we imagine is a fortress made entirely of solid-gold Ferraris, Blizzard cofounder and CEO Mike Morhaime took some time to thank the fans for their undying allegiance. "We're grateful for the incredible support that players around the world have continued to show for World of Warcraft," said Morhaime, continuing, "Wrath of the Lich King contains some of the best content we've created for the game so far, and we look forward to seeing even more players log in to experience it in the days ahead."
