It is disappointing that updating this was overlooked in this expansion. Lighting, shadowing and special effects have been updated, but it is still its art that carries the title from a visual standpoint. Northrend looks breathtaking - from the gleaming white cliffs and rolling fjords of the frozen wasteland, to the lush greenery of the Crystalsong Forest. The new continent is one of WoW’s most visually stimulating landscapes.

For a four-year-old game, WoW has not yet fallen by the technical wayside. The new expansion applies some polish to the overall presentation. It may not be a complete graphical overhaul, but increased draw-distance has an impact, making exploration smoother due to decreased scenery pop-up. The battle interface may be tried and tested but has not really moved on in the four years the game has been around and is starting to look archaic compared to younger MMORPGs.
